German authorities are investigating how a Norwegian managed to board two fights in two days without tickets, traveling 800 miles to Sweden.
The 39-year-old passenger cleared security at Munich Airport in August. 4 despite having no travel documents authorizing him to fly.
According to German publication Bild, the brazen traveler then boarded a plane bound for Hamburg, locking passengers with boarding passes.
However, once he boarded the plane, the crew quickly realized that he did not have a reserved seat.
He was caught by the police and released after questioning.
However, the unhindered traveler repeated the same tricks the next day, once again bypassing security and locking up other passengers boarding a Lufthansa flight to Stockholm.
This time, the man managed to secure an empty seat and flew 800 miles to the Swedish capital without the crew realizing he didn’t have a ticket.
They only became suspicious after he asked to fly to Munich immediately after landing.
The shocking security breaches have prompted investigations by both Munich Airport and the Bavarian State Police, which oversees crime in Munich.
A spokesperson for Munich Airport told Business Insider that it is investigating how the man was “able to bypass the automated boarding pass check before the security checkpoint.”
The culprit now faces charges related to the breach and evasion of fees.
However, he is not the first flyer to take to the skies without a ticket.
In February, an American woman managed to fly from Nashville to Los Angeles on an American Airlines plane without a boarding pass.
In the same month, a man bypassed security at Gatwick Airport in the UK and boarded a plane bound for Copenhagen, Denmark.
He was caught before departure but was not charged in the incident.
