Huge mansion in NYC building where Barbra Streisand lived for decades lists for $10 million

A real estate mogul’s Central Park West co-op has been listed for $10 million and is in the same building where Barbra Streisand spent many years living — and where Mariah Carey once hoped to call home.

This is the first time the unit, owned by William Friedman of Beachwold Residential, has been on the market in more than four decades.

The 18th floor residence is in the Ardsley, an Art Deco building designed by Emery Roth at 320 Central Park West.

This is the building where a co-op board famously rejected Carey’s $8 million bid to buy Streisand’s duplex penthouse in 1999.

Streisand, for her part, had lived in the building for more than 30 years, taking over a penthouse where songwriter Lorenz Hart co-wrote “Blue Moon,” “My Funny Valentine” and “Isn’t It Romantic ” with Richard. Rodgers resided in the 1940s.

Streisand moved into the building with her then-husband, Elliott Gould, in 1963. She stayed with their son Jason after the couple divorced in 1971, the same year the building was turned into a co-op.

By 1998, Streisand listed her penthouse for $10 million, only to sell it four years later for a greatly reduced $4.25 million after the board rejected multiple offers, including Carey’s.

The penthouse sold again for $10 million in 2019 after being on the market for just two months.

Friedman’s mansion is 3,500 square feet. It features a 700 square meter wrap-around landscaped terrace and wonderful sheltered views of the park, reservoir and skyline.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home opens from a private elevator to a large gallery. The master bedroom corner suite has its own access to the terrace and bay window seat. There is also a dressing area with wall-to-wall wardrobes and a bathroom like a bath. Another bedroom, known as the junior suite, also opens onto the terrace.

There is also a chef’s kitchen with windows and a formal dining room. Maintenance is $8,777 per month. The pet-friendly building has a gym, bike storage and additional private storage.
