I got kicked out of a job interview for wearing shorts and thought I looked professional

Experts have weighed in after a woman was kicked out of a job interview for wearing shorts, leaving many wondering why the wardrobe staple is inappropriate for work.

Earlier this week, Tyreshia, who posts under the handle @mtyreshiadaily, revealed she had been told to change after turning up to an interview wearing black shorts, a white T-shirt and a light sweater.

I can’t believe the recruiter asked me to change into my interview clothes and then come back, she captioned her video.

I look very neat and professional, so no! she added, alongside the hashtags #jobhunting, #fyp and #viral.

In the clip posted on TikTok, Tyreshia stands in front of the camera with her arms crossed.

Recruiter rejected me because of this, she wrote on the video, adding a red exclamation point emoji.

Tyreshia then tells viewers that she was dress-coded during a job interview, with the recruiter asking her if she would like to go home, change her outfit and come back, before rescheduling the meeting for the next day.

I was like, right? she said, before continuing to show off her ensemble to the camera, a surprised look on her face.

But while Tyreshia couldn’t figure out what the problem was with her outfit, the internet was quick to tell her, with most siding with the recruiters.

I don’t understand what you’re not getting, one said in a comment that has over 130,000 likes.

HR hereā€¦.the fact that they allowed you to change and do a remake says a lot. That would be an immediate no, another worker said.

As one simply put it: The lottery for an interview is crazy.

This is a wild outfit, thought another.

Australian stylist to the stars Donny Galella said there’s a good reason the outfit isn’t office-appropriate.

Shorts are never appropriate for a job interview, especially when they are this short, he told news.com.au.

Maybe for some industries like fitness, maybe a personal trainer at a gym can save them?

But in general I don’t think short shorts are appropriate to wear in a corporate setting.

Many agreed with this sentiment, suggesting that there was a generation gap in what constitutes acceptable interview attire.

Schools REALLY need to bring back career day and career prep classes, one user pointed out.

I have officially reached the age where I say this generation is wild, someone else wrote.

Gawd I feel like a boomer… BUT, when and why would shorts (of any length) be appropriate for a job interview? asked another viewer.

While others shared their own videos, roasting Tyreshia for being seemingly naive about her outfit choices.

Tyreshia has yet to comment on the criticism, or provide any updates on how her rescheduled job interview went.

But to date her video has racked up almost 3.5 million views and nearly 40,000 comments since it was posted on Thursday.

All that’s left to think about is what did she choose to wear the next day?
